Enjoyed the Earl’s ‘Chamber On Tap’ series event yesterday in the Rhino room. I now have another pile of videotape to edit. The Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce has been a dream to work with so far, and anything I can do to continue to provide value is a good thing. I think I’ve found the right seat for the short term, but moving forward I think I can do more…

I’m hoping to help out with a local charity in April, and in doing so share the stage with a major Canadian comedy star. Stay tuned for news on that one…

I’m having fun waving QR codes around everywhere. It’s great being the kid with the shiny new toy that everyone wants to see. I think I’ll have to make a habit of this.

Having the kids home sure improves my mood. Once they have their initial night here, they wake up the gentlemen I remember sending away last week. One box of lego has captured them for over 3 hours of friendly playtime tonight. Having a brother must be cool.

Work is just steaming along. I can’t believe I’ve actually retained the vast amounts of information I gained in Good to Great, the E-Myth, and Mastering the Rockefeller Habits. Answers seem to come easier now, and I’m more self assured about what should be done. Of course I could be headed for a masterful dead end explosion at 120 mph, but somehow I don’t think so. One of my projects for 2011 is to surround myself with smart people, and I’m off to an excellent start.

I’ve been helping a friend of mine with video testimonials for his clients. Like me he’s not from Saskatoon so we often bounce ideas off each other about how to adapt. What I like about his style is he has found a way to capture his passion and translate it into what he does for a living. He observed that my comedy and my corporate life are almost two separate identities.

I have actively kept the two separate, for many reasons. However as I reflect on that fact, many of the ‘reasons’ i created ring hollow. Business people need to laugh, and audiences need the benefits of my IT company. How do I bridge the gap without becoming a walking talking billboard?

Worth some thought…

I have returned from Calgary and my Comedy Now showcase. I’ve had several attempts in the past and I’ve always come up short. This time I feel like I ‘left it all on the stage’ and I am finally satisfied with what I did. I took my good friend Jocko Alston’s (we miss you down here man) advice and did what I wanted. I feel like I have put my best foot forward, and now the cards will fall where they may.

They’ve also asked for any other material I might have, and upon further review I have HOURS of tape that’s been filling several hard drives I have around the house. I’m now buring the midnight oil compiling additional clips for this site and for You Tube. I’ll have them posted by Monday at the latest, and my Comedy Now showcase will be included.

While looking through all this video storage, I’ve realized just how many special family moments I’ve captured now on video and in pictures. I’ve got birthday parties, Christmases, family events and more. Once I have everything Comedy Now has asked for put together and sent, I’m going to sit with Melissa and get these videos sorted, dated, and burned to DVD. I’ll always have multiple copies of this stuff for backup purposes, but I’m sure one day I’m going to want to just sit down and WATCH all of it, so it’s time to make some movies.

Once again I thank god for bringing Melissa into my life. When Comedy Now called, there was no question if I would be going. She knows what is important to her and to me, and she is always giving of herself. The kids call her mom half the time, and she really is the glue that keeps us all running smoothly.

Melissa, Liam and I took in the Monster Truck event today. Four hours of dirt bikes, demolition derbies, quad races, and more. Thanks to the person that donated the seats, we had an awesome time.

I’ve been playing around with QR codes. Scan this graphic and you’ll be joined to my Matthew Murray Comedy Blackberry Group. I update the calendar and say funny things as they pop into my head. It’s like facebook, but it’s all about me! Sweet!

Movies are uploading, check out the video link on this site!

Tonight was an absolute pleasure. Scott Dumas, Lori Ferguson and Damonde Tschritter put on a massive triple-headliner extravaganza at the Dakota Dunes Casino for Yuk Yuk’s. It was a pleasure to see professionals at work.

Every time you meet up with a fellow comic that you haven’t seen in quite awhile, you inveitibly time-stamp yourself. I haven’t worked with Lori in ages, and Scott broke into the business just before me back in Calgary. I remember being part of co-middle acts to open for Damonde when all I had was 15 minutes. Time passes fast!

Scott and Lori did so well, it was hard to get a word in edgewise as we caught up over drinks. They had fans constanting interrupting us and trying to get close to them. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard ‘What’syour sign?’ but apparently it’s still in circulation.

Safe travels my friends, and never stop hugging the front desk staff.

Special thank you to Pamela of Dakota Dunes for the VIP treatment. they have a spectacular location and with a few modifications to the seating and lighting, comedy will continue to grow in this bi-weekly time slot.

Melissa is studying for another final tomorrow, and I have business cards and logo designs to approve. My Comedy Now! showcase has been confirmed for Friday Feb 18th in Calgary. Please come if you have the opportunity. I think this is my year…

Wow it feels great to be blogging again. After much deliberation, I have left ChoiceTel and I’ve come back to the land of IT. For a guy that can’t configure a server, I’ve missed it. I have the opportunity to really flex some creative muscles and make something happen here in Saskatoon. More details as the days go by.

Melissa is doing a fantastic job in school. Her practicum starts soon, and she’ll be back in the funeral homes doing all kinds of things I never want to know about. It’s odd that we’re equally passionate about what we do, and neither one of us wants to hear anything about the other’s career. We’re happy for each other, and I think this just makes us apprecate the time we spend together more.

For personal reasons I won’t be doing many updates on Max and Liam. While they continue to achive in both school and extra-curricular events, I think their childhood is for Melissa and I to enjoy. Sure part of me wants to playthe proud dad and put up videos of Liam’s first ice skate, and Max’s first Tae Kwan Do testing, but these events were for the people that made the effort and were there. I’ll always cherish the memories and the videos I took, but those are for family to share together. Later in life when my boys are blogging and complaining about their ‘old man’ I’ll leave it to them to tell the stories.

Loving Dragon’s Den. Wow what a show! I’ll blog some more about it next time…

Oh,and did I mention I have a showcase for Comedy Now?!
