After my first year of Horizon, finishing off my divorce, and receiving some interesting feedback from my boss it is time for a vacation!

Breakfast Clubs
Author: Matthew MurrayApr 16
6 times a month I wake up VERY early to attend various Saskatoon networking clubs. Somehow it was decided that the pancake is the networking food of choice, and as such these groups ‘kick start’ the day with a dose of business.
Early.
Now I like these groups. I like almost everyone in them, and they have already lead to several big things in my life, one of which was winning the 2010 NSBA New Direction award.
But man I miss sleep. My bed ROCKS. The hottie that sleeps in it with me is pretty nice too. And to boot for Christmas I got kick ass pillows to match. I find life is just a bit too awesome, there is always one more conversation to have, one more meeting to book, one more thing to do before I go to sleep.
And then… the breakfasts.
I think I mask it well. I put on the networking, smiley, happy face and I seem to be doing well. But when it’s hard to keep my eyes open when I read the kids a bedtime story at 8:30, something has to change.
Sherlock Holmes: One bad MoFo!
Author: Matthew MurrayApr 14
Enjoyed a date night with the soon to be Mrs. at the cheap theatre. Watched Sherlock bust some ass and say lots of smart pithy English stuff. Now this is what an adaptation should be! Enough flavor of the original to give the nod to the source material, without having it quoted word for word, coupled with a bit of modern cinematic tricks. Loved it!
The kids are once again home for the week and the house feels complete. There is just something different in the air when I know the kids are safe and asleep upstairs. A part of me and Melissa is truly missing when they’re not here, and I find every Wednesday night I breathe a little easier, smile a little brighter, and sleep much much better.
BNI Rocks! This new business networking group has everything. In one fell swoop I have accountants, financial planners, contractors, travel agents, massage therapists, and everything else I might need all in my Blackberry. They all pledge a high level of service to each other with regards to referrals, and the frank businesslike manner of the meetings is always a breath of fresh air. Now if we could just get some apple juice and watermelon on the breakfast menu I’d be set.
Finished filming two more commercial/promo videos for Horizon. I’ll be starting in on the post production tomorrow, and I’ll post them here when they are done.
This should be easy…

Working on my 2009 taxes…wow.
Online you have to go to www.servicecanada to get an epass, but that won’t work unless you have an access code,m but that won’t work unless you go to www.cra-grc.ca to get a ‘myaccount’ but you have to HAVE an epass as part of the registration of a ‘myaccount’ and you need line 101 of your 2008 return in order to access your 2008 return.
Wow I wish I was joking.
A weekend off!
Author: Matthew MurrayApr 9
Creepy. No kids this weekend, no shows, no homework. The house is still nice and clean from Easter (some laundry but no big)
I have a weekend off. Everything. 48 hours of unbooked time.
There is a part of my mind I just can’t seem to turn off. The ‘gotta work, there must be something to do, if it seems like there’s nothing to do, it’s because I’ve forgotten something. Oh no, what did I forget? I’m DOOOMED!’ part.
Already I feel the urge to book the time. Places we need to visit, site updating, videos, comedy promotion, SOMETHING! Maybe it’s time to unplug, turn the cell phone off and just chill.
Melissa has been incredible. I think it’s time to get some DVDs, cuddle up and just enjoy the fact I’ve met the most incredible woman.
I’m sure I forgot SOMETHING….
Enjoying Stand-Up for what it is
Author: Matthew MurrayApr 8
I just watched ‘The Great Buck Howard’ starring Malkovich and Tom Hank’s kid (I’ll call him by his own name when he makes a name for himself). This was another movie in the vein of ‘Mr. Saturday Night’ that shows where comedians, actors, and magicians that don’t ‘make it’ go to die.
I sincerely enjoyed the message of enjoying the stage for what it is. The fact that it doesn’t matter if you’re in a bingo hall or the JFL stage, there is something pure and wonderful about making people laugh.
I really enjoy the business side of comedy, and recent efforts by Andrew Grose lead me to believe there can be more to this industry than just road stories and ‘ever notice in a hotel’ jokes. But this movie reminded me that even though I love my day job, I love my family, I love the business of comedy, and for the first time in years I am comfortable inside my own skin, the true place I belong is onstage.
Nothing will ever match the joy of having to pause for that extra beat because the laugh was so much bigger than expected. Nothing is cooler than saying I was the lead voice in Playstation video games. Nothing will ever match the electricity that runs through me when I hear people applaud at the sound of my name, or recognize me in a supermarket.
Very few people know what they were born to do. Fewer still get the chance to do it. I am a very lucky man to get the chance to be onstage, and I will never take it for granted or allow the politics or business taint what is one of the more pure joys in my life.
Easter!
Author: Matthew MurrayApr 6
I think my last post burned me out. Long rants about things that piss me off really drain my batteries. So I think I’ll opt for short daily posts rather than the continuing saga of my entire life.
Getting tons of letters of congratulations on my NSBA 2010 New Direction award. I received a letter from the leader of the NDP today no less. Yay!
Easter was fantastic. Melissa outdid herself with a dinner for all the family, the kids had a great Easter egg hunt, and we fit in a trip to the pool. I have fantastic kids.
I was assaulted onstage last week by a huge Easter bunny mascot who promptly fell off the stage. The kicker? He was created to promote safety in the workplace. Bravo.
