I just want to apologize to everyone who was expecting to see me in Regina this weekend. Due to some administrative boo-boos, it appears it will have to be another time. I’ll have more information on this as it becomes available to me.

Halloween is upon us!
Author: Matthew MurrayOct 30
The last few days have been a blur, sorry for the lack of posts. Where I was last night had no internet, or civility for that matter.
The boys are really for a rockin’ Halloween. Last night they baked Halloween cookies, carved pumpkins, and got their costumes ready for school. Though by the picture above I think I’ll have to help Liam a bit.
Do you think they play Scrabble in China?

I finally get my kids back tonight. The week on, week off parenting schedule is really hard on me and I just feel like a different person when I’m separated from them this long. I’m counting the minutes until I see them tonight.
I’m looking into re-taping my set. I’ve been forced to educate myself on video editing and I think it’s time to upgrade my CD and DVD. Anyone with any ideas or tips please let me know.
Looks like I’m going to have to go back to the gym. Let’s hope I can get a sponsorship deal similar to Melissa’s deal with Rhinos gym. I’m sure my trips to the gym will result in some decent stories, which this blog sorely needs.
The question has rattled around in my head for awhile now. That would have to be one BIG bag of letters. A quick Google tells me there really isn’t an alphabet per say, they are called characters. I’ll avoid the obvious pun and move along…
UFC in review
Author: Matthew MurrayOct 27

I had the chance to catch up on my UFC last night, and in viewing the PPV from Saturday I must say it was a snooze. I think the title fight could have gone either way. If you score it round by round it really is a toss up, if you score the fight as a whole I think you have to give the decision to Shogun. What really disappointed me was Machida’s lack of spirit in the championship rounds. I feel you always need to fight to win, not survive. It’s the guys that have that killer instinct that I always admire. You should never leave the fight in the judges hands and Lyoto did just that. Now I’m saying that sitting here at my desk and I haven’t been kicked in the legs for 20 minutes solid, so I’m going to give Macihida a pass on this one and wait until his next showing before I hop off the bandwagon. I think the Martial Artists have always deserved more respect than the “MMA Fighters” and I hope Machida regains his form.
Still progressing on the “big news” and every day that goes by we get a little bit more excited. I’m close to being able to announce details, stay tuned!
My opener in Regina is Ryan Ash. I haven’t worked with him before to the best of my memory, but then again my memory is shit. Click his picture to see his profile and some video on him.
I’m debating taping my show in Regina for another DVD/CD. It’s so damn hard to get the right crowd, camera angles, and equipment in the same place at the same time. It’s like a perfect storm, only this one doesn’t sink George Clooney. Speaking of George, what’s this “Men who talk to Goats” thing all about? I’m curious but…scared.
A weekend to remember!

Cranbrook of all places was a re-birth of sorts. I wanted to treat these shows like a lab and test theories and styles and wow did it click! Thanks for the packed house and the massive merch sales, you people were great!
I’m back to Regina this weekend for the Laugh Shop. I’m grateful for all this stage time leading up to my JFL audition on Nov 3rd. I’m selecting and refining my seven minutes and I’m looking forward to being there.
I have huge news regarding a major opportunity but I don’t want to jinx it and say anything before the ink dries. Stay tuned for the next step in the year of Mattitude!
Wow do I love poker. I also really love how bad most people are at it. Cranbrook was no exception and both Melissa and I were well rewarded for our time at the tables. It’s not often I have that good a session, but once in awhile it’s nice to come out extra happy.
I’m watching the UFC PPV that took place on Saturday tonight, tune in tomorrow for my review, I hope my man Lyoto retains the Light Heavyweight title.
Here’s a great post on Christmas shows

My friend Andrew had this on his website. Like any good blogger with daily content would do, I immediately asked for permission to post it here. Click the column to check out his website.

Loving the trip
Author: Matthew MurrayOct 24
What a fantastic trip this has been so far. Trevor is always a pleasure to travel with, and breaking up the trip over Thursday/Friday was the right call. We hit Cranbrook in time for dinner and some quality prep.
Tonight’s show was a smash, from a personal standpoint. I’m attempting to re-claim the stage and breathe new life and confidence into my material. I went back to some theatre school techniques to get my energy level up, and I was able to energize jokes that have really become dull. I taped the whole thing and I’ll be studying it tomorrow.
Check this out for a series of signs. I decided before leaving Saskatoon that I really needed to treat this weekend like a lab, get studying and working hard again. I want to re-dedicate myself to my craft. I woke up at my Mom’s house and she gives me my high school ring, something I thought had been lost for years. On the side are the drama masks and my name. I decide to use my college training to get ready, and after the show, out of nowhere one of my college classmates from 10 years ago appears to say she was in the crowd. She said I was always the funny one in our class, and had nothing but praise for my staying in the art. Thanks Stephanie, we’ll catch up on Facebook!
To top off the night, we hit the poker tables and had a great time. Melissa is really maturing fast and her spike in skill is amazing. She fleeced a guy for every cent he had and did it with a smile. That’s my girl.
Going to explore Cranbrook in greater detail tomorrow, we’ll get some pictures up of the….stuff we see….
It never fails…every time just before I leave town
Author: Matthew MurrayOct 22
Every time I’m booked off on a Friday to tour, the Thursday before is chaos. EVERY client decides they need me…NOW! I have worn my figures down to nubs today typing at light speed trying desperately to get out of here and hit the road. Why can I never leave on time?!
And before you answer, NO it is NOT because I’m lazy…
Another weekend in my 2009 has filled in, I’ll update you all tomorrow with where I’ll be, and who I’ll be working with.
Can’t wait to try all this new stuff on stage tomorrow night, Cranbrook here I come!
I’ve been cursed. I’ve had the jingle from this ad lodged into my brain for a week. It was on the Cleveland Show Sunday and this is the original. Now I pass it on to you. Living room, bedroom…
So much power…
Author: Matthew MurrayOct 21
As I continue to chronicle the life of our hero, in blog form, I’m amazed how high the temptation is to use this as a forum to totally slam people who really have it coming. Co-workers, people in the comedy industry, past friends now foes, they all come under the crosshairs as I strive to keep my perspective pleasant, market-friendly and entertaining.
So time after time I push the delete button and spare someone who really should have to hear this stuff. With great power comes great responsibility…
A huge thanks to all the people that have shown up in the last few days as this site continue to hit new milestones in terms of web traffic and page views. You’re all so nice, keep spreading the word that comedy is alive and well in central Canada! Support your local comedian, because for most of you, that means….me! Woo-hoo!
In response to a comment, hey BBBoris I am coming to Edmonton on November 3rd to showcase for Just for Laughs. They’ve extended me 10 free tickets, please feel free to round-up a wrestling posse and come see the show! Get all 10 tickets spoken for and you can have the DVD for free! Socks, pancakes and narco pups! (Yes that is a very VERY inside joke, that involves Boris and I throwing shoes at each other at a Calgary Cannons game)
I’ve decided to make my Cranbrook weekend a very comedy-intense experience. I mean really looking at my act in fine detail from as many angles as possible, and trying some new things onstage. I think I know WHAT I want to say, it’s time to develop HOW I want to say it. I know my act has been due for an overhaul for awhile now, but with JFL fast approaching, I am adopting the theory that “Good is the enemy of Great” and it’s time to take risks again.
Speaking of risks, could the potholes in Saskatoon get any bigger? I have been forced to completely revamp my definition of that word. In Calgary, potholes were these small divots where the pavement was soft or cracked, causing a mildly unpleasant bump when you drove your wheel over one. In Saskatoon these things are actual HOLES in the road. I saw a family of three living in one yesterday. For the longest time I thought Saskatoon had the highest population of drunk drivers anywhere, now I realize they’re just trying to save money on car repair.
Tomorrow: Saskatoon “elections” <snicker>
